ABOUT US & HISTORY

The establishment of the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International) is in line with the establishment of the National Technical University College of Malaysia (KUTKM) under Section 20 of the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (Act 30), through the National Technical University College of Malaysia (Incorporation 2001) Order, gazetted as P.U (A) 124 on 3 May 2001. This establishment came into effect on 1 December 2000.

Previously, the title Deputy Rector (Academic and International) was used in accordance with the name National Technical University College of Malaysia (KUTKM), until KUTKM underwent a rebranding process to Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) on 1 February 2007, in line with the rebranding of all Public Higher Education Institution University Colleges (IPTA). Since then, the title Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International) has been adopted and remains in use to this day.

Throughout this period, the appointed Deputy Rectors and Deputy Vice Chancellors (Academic and International) are as follows:

• 1 January 2001 – 31 January 2007: Y. Bhg. Datuk Professor Ismail bin Hassan
• 1 February 2007 – 31 December 2008: Y. Bhg. Dato' Professor Dr. Abu bin Abdullah
• 1 January 2009 – 31 December 2011: Y. Bhg. Dato' Professor Dr. Mohd Nor bin Husain
• 1 January 2012 – 15 April 2013: Y. Bhg. Professor Dato' Dr. Mohamad Kadim bin Suaidi
• 16 April 2013 – 31 July 2014: Y. Bhg. Professor Dr. Shahrin bin Sahib @ Sahibuddin
• 1 August 2014 – 31 December 2014: Y. Bhg. Dato’ Professor Dr. Mohd Nor bin Husain
• 1 January 2015 – 3 January 2020: Y. Bhg. Professor Datuk Dr. Mohd Razali bin Muhamad
• 1 October 2020 – 30 September 2025: Y. Bhg. Professor Dr. Zulkifilie bin Ibrahim
• 21 October 2025 – Present: Y. Bhg. Professor Dr. Mohd Rizal bin Salleh

The Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International) comprises six divisions under its purview, namely the Academic Planning & Development Office (PPPA), the Centre for International Students and Mobility (CISMo), the Centre for Academic Excellence and Scholarship (CAES), the Centre for Open and Distance Learning (CODL), the Centre for Lifelong Learning (UTeM ACCESS), and the Teaching Factory (TF), each led by a Director.
