COVID19

The COVID-19 pandemic also known as the coronavirus pandemic or coronavirus outbreak is the 2019 ongoing global coronavirus disease pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The outbreak was initially detected in mid -December 2019 in the city of Wuhan, Hubei, China, and was recognized as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) on March 11, 2020. So far, more than one case has been confirmed, with more than deaths due to COVID-19.

The virus is mostly transmitted between people in a way similar to influenza, through respiratory droplets from coughing or sneezing. It is considered most contagious when a person receives signs of symptoms, although its spread is possible even before symptoms appear. The time between exposure and onset of symptoms is usually five days, but may range from two to fourteen days. Common symptoms include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. Complications may include pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome. So far there is no specific vaccine or antiviral treatment. Efforts consist of symptom reduction and supportive therapy. Recommended preventative measures include washing hands, covering mouth when coughing, keeping distance from others (especially those who are unhealthy), and 14-day monitoring and isolation for people who suspect they are infected.
